Looking Forward To Remembering Today |

08/29/06 - My Own Private Louisiana
It's appropriate that on the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, I should spend about 40 minutes stuck on a train trapped by flood water. It wasn't actually the height of the water that was keeping us from moving, but rather, it was a pile of wooden debris lodged into the tracks (including the third rail) by the water. Once the rain stopped and the water level went down enough, the conductor went outside and dislodged the debris with a paddle. (Is there an emergency raft on the train?)
Luckily we were in a middle-to-upper-class white neighborhood, so if the flooding had gotten dangerously worse, I'm sure help would have been on the way.
